What is foam tape?
Foam tape refers to single-sided or double-sided tape with foam as the substrate. Compared with ordinary cotton paper or PET substrate tape, foam tape has obvious advantages in terms of conformability, cushioning and shock absorption
Single-sided foam tape:
At present, there are very few single-sided foam tapes on the market, mainly based on PU substrates, with modified acrylic glue. The PU substrate is mostly open-cell foam, which has good compression performance and is mostly used for buffering.
Double-sided foam tape:
Double-sided foam tape is mainly divided into substrates, and according to different substrates, it is mainly divided into the following types
01 PE substrate foam glue
One of the mainstream types of foam glue on the market, with closed-cell PE as the carrier, glue on both sides, and the glue is mainly modified acrylic. The foaming density of closed-cell PE foam substrate is different, the strength is not the same, and the application scenarios are also different. Low-density PE foam adhesive has good compressibility, but its own strength is limited, and it is mostly used for foundation bonding, and is not suitable for long-term load-bearing and impact-resistant applications. The high-density PE foam has limited compressibility, and the high-density closed-cell structure provides good waterproof, vibration and impact resistance, which can be used in high-demand bonding scenarios, such as smartphone back cover bonding.
02 PU substrate double-sided tape
This kind of product is relatively niche, with open-cell PU as the carrier, double-sided gluing, and the glue is mostly modified acrylic. Open-cell PU has good compression performance, but the strength of the PU substrate itself is relatively limited, so it is mostly used for cushioning applications and is not suitable for long-term load-bearing use.
03 Acrylic integrated foaming products
The most mainstream and most comprehensive foam tape product on the market, with acrylic as the main body, integrated foam molding. It has excellent bonding, cushioning, vibration resistance and aging properties. Compared with the traditional PE foam, its bonding is mainly achieved by the glue coated on both sides of PE, and the cushioning and anti-vibration performance is mainly achieved by the PE foam carrier.
The acrylic integrated foam product is directly filled with foam in the glue, and the thickness of the whole layer is glue and foam, which has better viscosity and impact resistance under the same thickness. At the same time, compared with PE foam, acrylic foam also has excellent creep and ductility properties, can absorb stress, and is used for curved or even special-shaped surface bonding.
